Travel Pyin Oo Lwin Detail

Pyin Oo Lwin is located about 70km east of the central Mandalay, belongs to the Pyin Oo Lwin Plateau in the south of Shan State. This is the end of the Shan Plateau including gradual hills, grasslands and river valleys with the average altitude of more than 1,000 meters. The old name of Pyin Oo Lwin is May Myo, meaning May Street (May is the name of the first British colonial officer stationed here).

Pyin Oo Lwin is famous for its botanical gardens, Kandawgyi Gardens, the 142-hectare May Myo botanical garden, and the Pwekauk waterfall. All are located in the May Myo Nature Reserve which has the temperature of 20 - 32 degrees Celsius, cold night, cool fresh climate all year round with thousands of flowers blooming. A scenic tower built of 10m-high teak on a hill in the center of May Myo Nature Reserve with exhibition areas of orchids and insects are planned and built in the British style surrounding the lakes, hills and low mountains.

The Pyin Oo Lwin town is small, gently with quiet neighborhoods and houses built since the British still owned. British-style houses, which are used by British officials and soldiers as a resting place, are now used as restaurants and bars for tourists.
